A Little Holiday Magic

Christmas Through a New Lens

Christmas minis are officially wrapped, and I could not have asked for a better way to kick off the holiday season. This year I hosted Christmas mini sessions at Light Loft Studios in Layton, Utah, and spent the day photographing three wonderful families in a cozy studio decorated for the holidays. Each session was only 15 minutes long, but every family brought so much personality into their time slot.

Two of the families had little kids who completely took over the studio in the best way possible. There was running, exploring, laughing, and lots of movement which honestly makes for some of my favorite moments to capture. Kids do not always want to sit perfectly still, and I love leaning into that energy and documenting the genuine interactions instead.

The little smiles between poses, parents chasing tiny feet around the studio, and all the in between moments ended up being some of my favorite images from the day.

One family also brought the newest member of their family: a puppy!

Holiday photos with a new pet just feel extra special, and getting to capture those first family Christmas memories together was so much fun.

These sessions were also especially meaningful to me personally because they were the first sessions I photographed with my new Sony 24–70mm f/2.8 lens.

My husband surprised me with it as an early Christmas present after knowing how excited I was for these minis. He actually wrapped a fake box under our Christmas tree and hid the real lens in our guest bedroom for me to find later.

Needless to say, I was completely surprised.

The lens came with me straight to these sessions and I already know it is going to become a staple in my camera bag. It gave me so much flexibility throughout the day and was perfect for moving between family photos and closer moments without missing a beat.

I am so grateful to the families who trusted me with their holiday memories this year and helped make these minis such a fun way to start the season.

Now onto editing, Christmas music, and all the holiday magic still to come.

Happy holidays ❤️
